I really began to enjoy these “tastings” as they gave me a chance to experiment with new ideas. Customers who liked a new cake and bought it were essentially acting as a focus group for me. So people were happy, jobs were saved, and we amassed a mailing list of over six thousand names.

This was a new direction for us and an excellent business model. I loved watching forkfuls of cake disappearing into people’s mouths. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that I would have lovingly hand fed them the cake myself.
